Why email

Why do we require an email address?

There are different kinds of surveys. Most are not representative of the community being surveyed and, hence, are not scientifically valid. As a result, they are of little practical value. While Madrona Voices will have some surveys that are just for fun, we also want to do surveys that accurately reflect the opinions of the San Juan County communities.

One way of achieving this accuracy is to make sure the people being surveyed are a random group that matches the demographics in question. This requires each survey to repeat the demographic questions so that the survey software can terminate the survey for those who exceed the ratio of the demographics being measured. This can be a frustrating experience for the individual and a challenging process for those doing the survey. (“We have enough seniors now, but thanks for trying.”)

Another way of creating a survey that is representative of the community is to ask those of a known demographic their opinions.  If you have taken a survey with us before, you have probably provided us with your demographic data.  Therefore, we can avoid asking you questions where you don’t fit the needed profile in order for the survey to be representative. The easiest way to do this is by tying the demographic information to the email address.

We will not share your email address with third parties nor do we have a use for your address other than to send you invitations to future surveys. Please note that we will not send you an invitation to community surveys if you don’t want us to; so, if you are reading this after receiving your invitation and you don’t want to hear from us again, CLICK HERE to opt out.

If you have further questions on our process or use of the details you give us in our surveys, see if we’ve described more in these FAQs. If not, please feel free to contact us to request additional information.

So, what happens if I give you a fake email address?

You can always give us a fake email address, but then you won’t receive future survey invitations or emails with links to the results. If you don’t want to hear from us again, that’s all right and you should CLICK HERE.
